The new League Two season is yet to get under way, but the Dons boss Neal Ardley is already enduring “ref” justice.

The Dons returned from their La Manga excursion last weekend, with Ardley overall satisfied with the bonding and training sessions.

However, the icing on the cake was a 1-1 friendly draw against Grenada CT – which was ruined, in Ardley’s opinion, by an over-zealous ref.

He said: “Grenada should have had a player sent off in the opening minutes when Lyle Taylor was through one-on-one and was hacked down from behind – the ref did not even book the lad.

“I was actually OK with it, I wanted to play against 11 men and I thought, well the ref is being sensible about it.

“But then he started to book players for nothing at all, and the lads from both sides lost their head a bit.

“The ref blew the whistle for the slightest touch and it was difficult to get any rhythm in the game.

“In all it was a shame, and I don’t know how often both an English team and a Spanish team have been upset with a referee.”

AFC Wimbledon’s pre-season continued last night (Thursday) against Kingstonian, and it comes to an end on Saturday when Cheltenham are the visitors to the Cherry Red Records stadium.
