Surbiton head coach Todd Wiiliams says New Zealand international Andy Hayward has not arrived at Sugden Road to showboat.

Hayward, who missed much of last season with a broken thumb, confirmed his switch from MHL Premier Division rivals Hampstead & Westminster at the weekend.

“It is great to have one of the world's best drag flickers joining us, but he is also a player who works hard and is still looking to improve his game,” said Williams.

Chris Grassick and Andy Forsyth won EuroHockey Championship II bronze medals with Scotland on Sunday.

The pair featured as the Scots beat the Czech Republic 5-1 in the third place play-off, with Forsyth scoring one of the goals to finish the tournament as joint leading scorer with seven.

Captain Grassick got his team’s only successful shoot-out goal in their semi-final exit at the hands of eventual runners-up Austria after the scores had finished 1-1.

Clubmates Stephen Kelly, Rupert Shipperley, Lewis Prosser and goalkeeper David Kettle were in the Wales squad that won gold at the EuroHockey Championship III tournament in Portugal.

The quartet were all in action as Wales beat the host nation 4-0 in Saturday’s final.

Surbiton’s Charlotte Calnan, Holly Munro and Eloise Stenner won bronze medals after England’s U18 girls beat Belgium 2-0 in their EuroHockey Junior Championships third place play-off in Spain on Saturday.
